Varicose vs. Spider Veins
What is the difference between a varicose and spider vein?
A varicose vein is a bulging vein that is typically blue, and it’s deeper so it bulges up out of the skin. Varicose veins are usually symptomatic, meaning they can cause pain and achiness. They are usually around four to five millimeters around.
Spider veins, which are closer to the surface of the skin, are more superficial. While spider veins can ache and burn, it’s not as bad as the pain experienced with varicose veins. A spider vein is only around one millimeter in diameter.
