Dr. M. Jaffer Ansari

Learn about Dr. Ansari’s interventional strategies to keep his patients out of the cardiac cath lab.

Meet Dr. M. Jaffer Ansari of Interventional Cardiology.

Talk about your educational background.

Dr. Ansari went to medical school in Pakistan and trained in England. Then, he had further training in Chicago and his advanced cardiology training in Tampa, FL.

Talk about a typical patient you might see.

When Dr. Ansari sees patients with coronary artery disease, it is usually pretty advanced, and they are having chest pain or symptoms of heart failure. He usually sees them in an emergency situation or in his office when they are at a high risk of having a heart attack. He says the difficult part of his job is the preventive strategies from lifestyle changes and medications that help keep his patients from going into the cardiac cath lab. He tells his patients he likes to meet with them but not in the cath lab.

What are some of the lifestyle changes you encourage patients to make?

Lifestyle modifications include weight reduction, stopping smoking, using less saturated fat, lowering cholesterol, walking at least 25-30 minutes a day to burn fat, and keeping body weight close to their ideal body weight.

What do you like to do outside of the office?

He likes to play cricket, travel across the world, listen to good music, and play chess.
