Dr. Hatim Mahmood

Learn about Dr. Mahmood’s return to the Metro East and what he enjoys most about working with patients.

Meet Interventional Cardiologist Dr. Hatim Mahmood.

Talk about your journey to Memorial Hospital.

He was born in Memorial Hospital and lived locally until he left for college. Dr. Mahmood went to medical school at Southern Illinois University and did his residency at SIU in Springfield. Then, he did fellowships at Baylor before returning to practice where he was born and raised.

What is your role at The Heart and Vascular Center?

He’s an interventional cardiologist, so he does invasive work such as putting in stents (if there is a heart attack) as well as taking care of a lot of sick patients.

What do you enjoy most about working with patients?

He actually enjoys seeing patients in the outpatient, clinic setting, and they become like family. He says it is very rewarding to see a sick patient go on to live a normal life.

What do you like to do outside of work?

Dr. Mahmood likes to spend time with his kids, travel, swim, and go to his kids’ sporting events. He works long hours, so he doesn’t really want to do other things that take time away from his family.
